Lead Work

Lead is the original roof waterproofing material and still the right answer for chimney junctions, complex valleys and listed-building roofs.

Where lead is used

Around chimney stacks (apron, side flashings, back gutters, soakers), in valleys between two pitches, along hips, at roof-to-wall junctions, at parapet gutters, on dormer cheeks and at bay-window roofs.

How we work

Lead is supplied in coded weights - code 4 to code 6 for most domestic work. We hand-dress it onsite to match the brickwork or stone-coursing, fix with copper or stainless clips, point in with lead-mate sealant where appropriate. Listed-building work gets matched in lime-based mortars.

Stolen or perished lead can be re-laid like-for-like or, where preferred, replaced with terne-coated stainless that looks the part without the scrap value.
