A listed building is a building designated of historical, architectural or cultural importance. There are around half a million in the UK and they each need handling differently to a modern roof.
Why us
Huntingdon District Council has approved MJA Roofing as a recommended repairer of listed buildings - which means our workmanship has been independently judged to meet the standard a property protected under the Listed Buildings Act requires. We're not many. To verify, please call Huntingdon District Council on 01480 388424.

How a listed roof is different
The first step is special permission from the local authority - you cannot demolish, alter or extend without it. We can help with the application. The work itself uses traditional and complex roofing techniques that need replicating like-for-like: lime mortars rather than cement, hand-cut clay tiles or natural slate matched to the existing, hand-dressed lead, and timber rafters in matched species.
What can go wrong
These properties are old - that is the whole point. Deterioration of slates or tiles, cracking and sliding of slates, rotted or deteriorated rafters. Specialist work is needed because the age of the building means original materials and techniques.
